The Big Story

The Karnataka Government's ban on the sale of cell phones to children below the age of 16 may have aggravated many teens who have accused the government of acting as a "moral brigade" , but interestingly,this has triggered off a debate on how the latest gadgets and equipments pose a threat to people who can't live without them.
Various concerns about cell phone usage amongst children causing cancer, brain disorders and impacting the nervous system have been raised by health experts.
Rather than debating as to what the karnataka government did was right or wrong we'll see what are the possible ways this technology affects people and ways to prevent them by adhering to strict measures;
*Basically,cell phones work by emitting radio frequency radiation thru the antenna on the phone.This antenna lies right next to the BRAIN.
*The potential risk of a mobile phone comes from its emission of low levels of RF,the same type of energy that comes from a microwave oven.
*The Rf pulses off the device's antenna right next to the user's head and that proximity to the brain is what concerns some researchers.
*The high levels of Rf can produce biological damage thru heating effects(this is how the microwave oven cooks food)
*However,it's not known whether to what extent or thru what mechanism lower levels of rf might cause adverse health effects as well!
~Children may be more vulnerable bcoz of their developing nervous system.
Preventive measures;
-->Use hands free sets to decrease radiation to the head
-->Discourage children from using them.Try to be honest with them
-->Don't use a cell phone if the signal is weak.The phone emits more radiation to compensate for a poor signal.
The main catch here is these are all short term studies.Mobile phones have only been in mainstream for a few years.None is sure of the long term effects.
A lot of confusions prevail on the question of whether use of cell phones is hazardous are not , but why take risks?
